Christina Skoski, MD, became a hemipelvectomy amputee in 1962 due to cancer while a student in High School. After learning how to walk with a prosthesis, she continued her education and received her MD degree in
1972. She is a Clinical Anesthesiologist, in private practice in
Southern California. She found and joined the Amputee Coalition of
America in 1997, and is now a lifetime member, also serving as a professional advisor.
Recognizing the importance of the Internet and drawing on over 30 years of personal experience, she created a non-profit web site specifically devoted to the high pelvic level of amputation, hemipelvectomy and hip-disarticulation. As the least common lower limb amputation, finally there is a site for new amputees of this high level to obtain support, information and education. As a consumer of prosthetic services, no matter what level, she has a long history of personal and professional experience and hopes to share her unique qualifications with both the amputee and prosthetic population, for the benefit of all concerned.
