Tillges Certified Orthotic Prosthetic Inc., Maplewood, Minnesota, announces the availability of the MAS socket design for the above-knee amputee.

Substantial research performed by Marlo Ortiz, prosthetist and owner of Ortiz Internacional, Guadalajara, Mexico, led to the development of his socket design-the Marlo Anatomical Socket (MAS). The advantages of this new socket over previous designs, according to Robert Tillges, CPO, FAAOP, include 1) more comfort in sitting, 2) ease in donning, 3) greater range of motion, 4) improved gait, 5) easier containment of ischial tuberosity, 6) enhanced stabilization of the lateral socket wall, and 7) better cosmetic appearance.

Tillges recently attended a MAS Socket Design Seminar in Waterloo, Iowa, and was trained by Marlo Ortiz and certified to fabricate and fit the MAS socket. The MAS Socket provides an outstanding foundation for the many technological advancements in prosthetics available today. Used together, the above-knee amputee can attain new levels of comfort, cosmetics, and functionality, Tillges said.
