The Composites Manufacturing Technology Center (CMTC) has issued an open call for informational papers for advances in the field of prosthetics and orthotics. The call names a few areas of specific interest, including composites materials, however, all areas will be considered. The deadline for submissions is noon on Friday, August 24.

Specifically, the information being sought includes:

  • Ideas and suggestions for more comfortable and durable sockets.
  • Systems that enable the ability to provide functionally graded structural properties during socket fabrication.
  • Computational models that can determine the dynamic load transfer path between the internal skeletal structure and exterior prosthetic systems.
  • Sensors to enable intelligent socket design, as well as feedback from the prosthetic system.
  • Concepts for new actuators, which are low power, lightweight, and low noise.
  • Ideas and suggestions that enable good, natural bi-directional information exchange.

CMTC said that it is seeking the widest possible distribution for this call, so that all worthwhile ideas may be considered.
