Ability has been collecting the limbs since shortly after the devastating earthquake in Haiti on January 12. Donors generally dropped off limbs at Ability’s clinics in Pennsylvania and Maryland, but according to the company, others sent in items from as far away as California and New York. Because of U.S. law, these limbs cannot be reused within the United States. Ability estimates that purchased new, the limbs would range in price from $8,000 to $25,000 each.
The hand-over took place at the National Press Club (NPC) Ballroom as part of the NPC’s program, “Haiti: Past, Present and Future.” Ability Vice President and co-owner Jeffrey Quelet, CPO, made the donation.
