The Can-Am National Swimming Championships are over, but their legacy is just the beginning of a long journey for some champion adaptive swimmers. The March 25–27 event, held in San Antonio, Texas, saw U.S athletes breaking 19 world, Pan-American, and American swimming records, and set 27 of them on the road to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships, which will be held in Eindhoven, Netherlands, August 15–21, 2010. According to U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) writer Katie Breitbach, 25 of these athletes previously competed in Beijing’s 2008 Paralympic Games.
