Rhythm Foot

The field-adjustable, Niagara Prosthetics and Orthotics International Rhythm Foot and the iWalk BiOM prosthetic ankle are the gold and silver winners, respectively, of the 2012 Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) in the rehabilitation and assistive-technology. DuPont, headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware, received a 2012 MDEA certificate as supplier of the material—Hytrel®, a polyester elastomer—that was used to produce the Rhythm Foot.

Winners were announced May 23, at the MDEA presentation ceremony in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

According to the MDEA website, this awards program, for the medical technology community, recognizes the “achievements of medical product manufacturers and the many people behind the scenes—engineers, scientists, designers, and clinicians—who are responsible for the groundbreaking innovations that are changing the face of healthcare.”
