The Black Diamond Ball drew about 350 guests recently to Denver, Colorado, to benefit the National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD), Winter Park, Colorado. The festivities, which included dining and dancing, also paid tribute to a company and two individuals for their support of the centers sports and recreational programs.

"The NSCD is one of those organizations where you give a little and get a lot back," said Denver Post publisher William Dean Singleton, chairman of both the Denver Newspaper Agency and the NSCD board, quoted in an article by Joanne Davidson in The Denver Post October 18.

Singleton and NSCD President Robert Robinson presented the Bold Tracks Award to RE/MAX International; the Outrigger Award to John Beake, former vice president of football operations for the NFL, who spent several years in the Broncos front office; and the Athlete of the Year award to Roger Chard, a blind author, attorney, entertainer, and father from Michigan who learned to ski through the NSCD, the newspaper reported.

Among those attending was Hal OLeary, who began the NSCD 35 years ago.
