Ertl amputee and long-distance endurance cyclist Dan Sheret
recently announced an updated itinerary for AbilityTrek 2007, an adventure in which he will cycle about 16,000 miles across four continents. Sheret's journey will begin June 1, in San Francisco, California, rather than in England. The cyclist will circumnavigate the globe to continue his message of hope and awareness for others dealing with limb loss. The trek will raise funds and awareness for two charities: Clear Path International and the Rotary International Basra Project.
While in Salt Lake City, Utah, AbilityTrek 2007, in conjunction with The Orthotic & Prosthetic Assistance Fund Inc. (OPAF), will be hosting a First Ride Clinic, slated for June 21.
There is no charge to disabled participants, but pre-registration is required.
In addition, AbilityTrek 2007 announced that those interested in supporting Sheret by cycling with him on his ride across America can now register to join the AbilityTrek 2007 ride. The U.S. portion of the trek has been broken down into five segments lasting from seven to 15 days. Both able-bodied and disabled cyclists are encouraged to ride with Sheret in support of his efforts.

CAF Triathlon Events Registration Opens
Registration is now open for two premier Challenged Athlete Foundation (CAF) triathlon events, the Sempra Energy San Diego Triathlon Challenge and Ironman Revisited, the San Diego, California-based organization has announced.
Ironman Revisited will be held Sunday, August 12, at San Souci Beach, Oahu, Hawaii. The event retraces the route of the original Hawaii Ironman: a 2.4-mile Waikiki Rough Water Swim; a 112-mile Around Oahu Bike event; and a 26.2-mile Honolulu Marathon. Individual and relay options are available.
Ironman Revisited is a unique experience that replicates the original Hawaii Ironman course from 1978. Participants "will retrace the steps of the legends while taking in the beauty of the island of Oahu," according to CAF. Special guests include Ironman World Championship finisher and Operation Rebound Spokesperson, Maj. David Rozelle, who is a transtibial amputee.
The Sempra Energy San Diego Triathlon Challenge will be held Sunday, October 28, at the La Jolla Cove, San Diego. The triathlon includes a 1.2-mile swim in La Jolla Cove; a 56-mile hilly and scenic bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run along the coast. Individual and relay options are available.
Participants will "compete next to over 100 challenged athletes, celebrities, pro-triathletes, and other able-bodied participants on one of the most beautiful courses in the country," CAF noted.

NYC Triathlon Seeks Disabled Competitors
On July 22 the Nautica New York City Triathlon
will once again play host to the USA Triathlon (USAT) Accenture Physically Challenged National Championships—with an added twist that is expected to make the event one of the largest gatherings of physically challenged (PC) athletes outside of Paralympic competition.
Last year, nearly 50 challenged athletes competed at the event for top honors in nine recognized categories. This year, the New York City Triathlon will not only serve to crown the 2007 USA Triathlon PC National Champions, but will also feature for the first time an open PC division. The New York City Triathlon is one of the world's most PC-friendly courses, it was noted, with a fast, current-assisted 1.5km swim in the Hudson River, a 40km bike on the Westside Highway, and a 10km run highlighted by a loop through beautiful Central Park. It also features an enthusiastic and experienced crew of handlers available to assist PC athletes with their race-day needs. Registration for the Accenture PC National Championships and the PC Open begins March 1 at
www.nyctri.com. Registration will close July 1.
