It's Getting Easier to Be Green

By Karen Henry

As the mercury continues to rise, gas prices soar, and the U.S. economy creeps downward, The O&P EDGE turns its attention to conservation, preservation, and restoration. It used to be that implementing any type of environmentally friendly feature in your home or office was cost prohibitive, but the tide seems to be turning, making it more feasible to incorporate "green" into our everyday personal and professional lives.

This month, Mild Fairley takes a look at the "green" movement and provides some tips—both large- and small-scales—about what you can do to become a part of the revolution.

Do you consider your facility to be environmentally friendly? If so, let us know what you are doing within your practice, office, or fabrication facility to help minimize your impact on the environment. Send your stories to

Comings and Goings...

With this issue, Brady Delander signs off as the editorial assistant of The O&P EDGE. Many of you have gotten to know Brady either by phone or e-mail or at one of the many trade shows and educational symposia throughout the year, and I have no doubt that you have enjoyed your dealings with him. Brady will be joining his wife in building a home-based public relations and marketing firm, and I am confident that they will enjoy every success. While we will no longer be seeing him on a day-today basis, Brady will be writing for The O&P EDGE on a freelance basis. I am happy to know that his voice and perspective on the O&P profession will continue to be heard.

I am also honored to introduce Angela Montgomery, CPO, as the newest member of The O&P EDGE editorial advisory board (EAB). The O&P EDGE EAB plays a vital role in helping to shape the editorial scope of the magazine, and Angela has a wealth of ideas and enthusiasm. Angela manages the Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics, Boulder, Colorado, patient care facility. Working at the base of the Rocky Mountains, she provides care for a great number of patients who maintain an active lifestyle and demand that their orthotic and prosthetic components be able to stand up not only to Colorado's ever-changing climate, but also to a variety of terrain and recreational activities. To learn more about Angela, read "Face to Face" in the May 2008 edition of The O&P EDGE, page 48, or read it online .

Fond Farewell

The O&P EDGE lost a valuable member of its EAB with the unexpected passing of Alberto E. Castillo Moreno, O.P. In addition to being a dear friend to us, Alberto brought The O&P EDGE content to his colleagues in Latin America by translating pieces of our editorial content into Spanish. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family and friends. We will miss him and his contributions to the O&P community.
