POINT Seminar Advances Education

How do you hold down the costs associated with maintaining your professional certifications, yet ensure you are kept current on state-of-the-art technologies and business practices?

POINT Health Centers of America presented "Links to Learning," an educational program designed to assist clinicians and other staff members in these aspects, June 13-15 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Susi Funkhouser, POINT's administrative director, welcomed 55 practitioners and others from the independent O&P network's member facilities to the event, along with 17 exhibitors and sponsors.

The POINT program offered a potential 21.25 PCE credits and featured 15 speakers, including talent from within the POINT organization. Speakers included Roger Marzano, CPO, CPed, pedorthic specialist at Yanke Bionics, Akron, Ohio; Tom Passero, CP, president, Aesthetic Concerns LIVINGSKIN, Middletown, New York; and Wade Bader, CPO, director, Kinetic Research, Tampa, Florida.

POINT's preferred vendors and sponsors also shared their expertise: John Miguelez, CPO, clinical director, Advanced Arm Dynamics; Malcolm Owen, Endolite North America; Mike Modglin, RTO, Atlanta International; Jeff Michalenok, president, Cailor-Fleming Insurance; Marty Vogel, CPO, Silipos; Gary Hooks, TEC Interface; Julie Schick, CP, Otto Bock Health Care; and Loren VanderBroek, CO, DeRoyal.

Also on the program were noted industry associates, including John Michael, CPO, FAAOP, president, CPO Services; Randy Schmitke, CPA, MBA, CFO, O&P Digital Technologies; Camille O'Reilly, BSN, CRRN, Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago; and Catherine Dunlay and Elizabeth Kastner, Schottenstein, Zox and Dunn.

POINT received support and sponsorship from all its preferred vendors for the "Links to Learning" meeting, according to Funkhouser. Breaks and lunches were sponsored by Silipos, Endolite, DeRoyal, PEL supply Co., Knit-Rite, Cailor-Fleming Insurance, Atlanta International, and Royal Knit. Attendees enjoyed two special events: A Welcome Reception sponsored by PEL Supply and a Patio Party at Cinergy Field, sponsored by Otto Bock Health Care, during which the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates in 11 innings.
