Pistorius’ Appeal to be HeardBilateral amputee sprinter Oscar Pistorius' appeal to the Court
of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to overturn a ruling that he is
ineligible to compete at the Olympics will be heard on April 29-30,
the Associated Press (AP) reports.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF)
ruled in January 2008 that Pistorius is ineligible to participate
in the Beijing Olympics--or any other sanctioned able-bodied
competitions--because his prosthetic running legs have been deemed
"technical aids" that give him a clear advantage.
The IAAF ruling is based on tests performed by German professor
Gert-Peter Brueggemann. Pistorius commissioned his own tests in
February in Houston, Texas, and contends they produced sharply
different results.
Pistorius appealed the IAAF decision on February 13, saying he
does not gain an unfair advantage from his prostheses.
