Robert M. Zimecki, CO, was taken from his family
and the field of O&P suddenly on October 20, 2007. Bob began
his orthotic career at the Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church,
Virginia. In 1987, he opened Northern Virginia Orthotics and
Prosthetics, which was acquired by Hanger Orthopedic Group, of
Bethesda, Maryland, in 2003. This quiet, talented orthotist and
family man was recovering from a back injury at his home in Palm
Coast, Florida, when he passed away. He took a special interest in
treating children and those with spinal disorders. With his warm
smile and talented hands, he found satisfaction in a career that
helped countless persons, making a huge difference in their
lives.
Bob graduated from McLean High School in 1971 and from American
University in Washington, DC in 1983. He received his certificate
in upper- and lower-limb orthotics and a certificate in spinal
orthotics from UCLA. After attending University of Minnesota
Medical School in Minneapolis and receiving his long-term orthotics
certificate, he achieved ABC certification in 1985.
He is survived by Lynn, his wife of 29 years; his three
children, Jason, 28, Lindsey, 23, and Amanda, 21; and his
granddaughter, Harper Grey, 15 months.
Bob loved performance cars and the outdoors and was a certified
commercial diver. For those friends wishing to find out more about
his life or to leave a memorial message, they may visit http://zimecki.muchloved.com. Those who knew
him know how talented Bob was and that he has left a void, not only
among his family and friends, but also to the persons he treated
during his very fulfilling career. He will be truly missed by
all.
