ABC Hires PR Specialist

Catherine A. Carter, executive director of the American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABC), has appointed Katherine Schaefer to the newly created position of communications/public relations (PR) specialist. Schaefer joined ABC's staff on September 22, 2008, and will work with Tom Derrick, ABC director of public relations, in the communications and marketing department. In her new role, Schaefer will assist with website content, work on press releases, and help grow the organization's publicity.

Schaefer comes to ABC from her previous position as a staff writer for the bi-weekly association and nonprofit newsletter, CEO Update. While at the newsletter, Schaefer wrote editorial copy, worked on the design and layout, and helped with marketing materials. She graduated in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in journalism from Michigan State University, East Lansing.

"We're looking forward to Katie becoming an integral part of our O&P communications team," said Derrick. "She's a great writer and will significantly improve our ability to execute the board's directive to spread the ABC message to O&P professionals, referral sources, other allied health groups, and the patients we serve."
