Today, Tyler Junior College (TJC), Texas, will honor Darren Kindred, Yardley, Pennsylvania, with its Valuable Young Alumnus award. Kindred is a 1992 graduate of the TJC tennis tech program, a professional tennis-management program. Since 2005, he has served as director of tennis and as an advisory board member for the Orthotic and Prosthetic Assistance Fund (OPAF). Kindred and OPAF Executive Director Robin Burton developed the First Volley clinic series for OPAF, which received the National Community Service Award from the United States Tennis Association in 2007.

According the Tyler Morning Telegraph, Kindred will speak at the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) National Tennis Teachers Conference during the U.S. Open about adaptive tennis. It said, "His dream is to see the U.S. Open add a competitive event for ambulatory amputees."

Kindred is the director of tennis and the head teaching professional for the Bucks County Racquet Club, Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania.
