AmPro To Host Amputee Clinic, CEC-Iowa Meeting
Following numerous discussions with national continuing education chairman Frank Bostock, CO, plans have been confirmed for American Prosthetics & Orthotics to host the American Board for Certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics (ABC) Continuing Education Course (CEC-2) May 21-22, at the Clarion Hotel in Iowa City.
This meeting will bring to the practitioners a packed, two-day conference dealing with all aspects of orthotic and prosthetic service. In addition, the CEC-2 or (CEC-Iowa) will offer an ever-growing number of component modules to allow members to proceed with and complete the ABC Fellow program.
Of special interest to some may be the inclusion of lectures by Dr. Charles Saltzman about the care of the diabetic foot, and Dr. George Leoarhaus, who will speak about the latest understanding of and modern treatment for phantom pain.
In addition, information will be available concerning the National Commission for Orthotic and Prosthetic Education's (NCOPE) residency program. Those with interest in starting residency sites or others who might have questions about the process are urged to attend this meeting.
For more information, contact the Meetings Dept. at the O & P National Office at 703-836-7118.
American Prosthetics & Orthotics will host Life Without Limitations, a day-long health and exercise clinic designed to cover the essentials for amputees of all ages, on Saturday, October 2 . Topics will include a technology update, a nutritional discussion, and a presentation and demonstration of special exercise techniques for amputees by several world-class amputee athletes.
American sponsored a similar event at Drake University two years ago. "Despite the distinguished speakers and experts we had at the last clinic, our guests learned more from one another than from any other source," stated John Kamp, certified prosthetist/orthotist and manager of the Davenport office. "People talked about the last clinic for months afterwards."
Life Without Limitations, a presentation of Flex-FootŪ Inc., will be held in the indoor practice bubble used by the football team at the University of Iowa. The good news is there won't be any football crowds to battle that day-the Hawkeyes have a bye. Specific times and registration information will be available in the next newsletter.
