AOPA Medicare Compliance CD-ROM
One of the best business programs was the workshop where AOPA unveiled their latest CD-ROM, a complete do-it-yourself compliance program in response to the recent Office of the Inspector General investigation of Medicare. I happened to serve on the Committee that produced this program, and can promise you it will save the interested facility hundreds of hours compared to trying to understand the government's recommendations on your own.
Charles Pritham CPO did a yeoman's job of incorporating recommendations from AOPA members who have already developed their own compliance programs. Brian Gustin CP was also a driving force and freely shared examples from his facility in Green Bay, Wisconsin, while Mike O'Donnell CPO [who authored the AOPA "Electronic Illustrated Guide to L-Codes"] contributed chart audit and other implementation forms. Kathy Dodson reviewed the entire project from her perspective as a Medicare expert, and made certain that each sub-point of the official OIG recommendations had been addressed.
Contact AOPA at info@aopanet.org for details on ordering this disc. It includes the entire text of the OIG report, all of the government's recommendations, a sample Policies and Procedures Manual, and even a PowerPoint presentation to help introduce the concept to facility staff. And, Charlie has created hyperlinks between all the pertinent parts of these various documents so you can quickly jump back and forth between them without getting lost, or having a mound of paperwork cluttering your desk. AOPA is to be commended for taking a pro-active stand on this issue, and producing yet another practical aid to help today's practices cope with the changing business environment.
