Welcome to the intersection of orthotics and prosthetics in cyberspace!
This month's Corner begins with a report on a challenging fitting for a gentleman with a transhumeral amputation who developed severe parasthesias in his uninvolved arm and hand after successfully wearing a body-powered prosthesis for several decades. It continues with an update on the young man whose microprocessor-controlled knee was denied by his HMO, and a short segment noting the recent survey of health profession salaries by the American Medical Association.
Thanks to the generosity of Sr. Alberto Castillo from Mexico City, the articles in this Corner will now be available in Spanish too. A brief biography is posted, listing just a few of Sr. Castillo's many accomplishments. Additional chapters from the texts on lower limb prosthetics and orthotics that have been translated into Spanish are also available for downloading.
Finally, there is a link to a recent article co-authored with Dr. Linda Marks for the British Medical Journal, and information on the new edition of Don Shurr, PT, CPO's primer titled Prosthetics & Orthotics.
