Traditional New Orleans Jazz

My wife, Linda, and I were in Minnesota for Mardi Gras this year, where we enjoyed some hot jazz along with the cold and snow. We went to a Fat Tuesday party at a Minneapolis bar and grill called The Times. The Southside Aces, a local traditional New Orleans jazz band, were playing that night to celebrate the release of their inaugural CD. Their home page is at www.southsideaces.com and includes a link to the CD Baby site where two minute clips from each of the songs on their album are available for downloading.

The clarinetist and band leader, Tony Balluf, really swings those tunes while the Sousaphone [played by Eric Jacobson] keeps the base line jumpin' and the horns and guitar add their riffs to the mix. Our personal favorite among these talented musicians is the drummer, but that's hardly an unbiased opinion: he's our son, David.
