Access to digital charts in hospital
Posted By: rjensen on September 24, 2012
Dear list, In northern California our company services Kaiser Hospitals who have electronic health records that we, as an O&P facility, cannot access except by asking a nurse to look things up. Our company is 60+ years old and has diligently charted our activities in the hospital chart as part of a complete medical record. Similarly the VA Northern California is also digital and we have no access. The next on the list is a local hospital that hopes to be digital by March 2013. Has anyone been able to access digital records in their local hospitals and if you have, how did you do this? I have tried numerous routes and they all lead to dead ends. Without being able to communicate in the medical record,, our collective voice as a profession is being seriously weakened. Some insensitive practitioners liken this as O&P having a status in the hospital just beneath the janitorial staff. I will post responses. Thanks, Robert Jensen CPO |
