ANNOUNCE: Academy Webinar Tomorrow
Posted By: Manisha Bhaskar on October 23, 2012
The American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists The Academy Webinar Series LIVE WEBINAR TOMORROW Wednesday, October 24, 2012, 12:00-1:00 PM ET Maintaining Limb Volume: Effects of Doffing Between Periods of Activity Katheryn Allyn, CPO An increase or decrease in volume may change prosthetic fit and influence comfort, stability, and activity. Though periodic doffing is suggested clinically to patients as a means to counter volume change, it is unknown if residual limbs return back to their pre-doff volumes once the prosthesis is donned and activity resumed. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect on limb fluid volume of a doffing period in between periods of activity. Kate Allyn, CPO, is an ABC-certified and Washington State licensed orthotist and prosthetist who has been a practitioner since 1992. She began her research prosthetist role in 2002 with Prosthetics Research Study in Seattle, WA. In 2006, she started working with the Sanders' Prosthetic Bioengineering Laboratory at the University of Washington in Seattle. Allyn believes it is important to effectively translate research findings in a clinically interesting and meaningful way with a focus on improving the quality of care prosthetists deliver and increasing the efficiency of their clinical practice.
