Physician Documentation
Posted By: Lane Ferrin on August 28, 2012
Dear Colleagues, In response to Mark McQuire's post today, I have also seen the exact same errors in physician notes, plus worse. Its not news that doctors are too busy to spend enough time with patients and don't have enough experience or training in prosthetics and orthotics to properly document need. I am lucky here in Utah Valley; I refer all my patients to two local physiatrists who provide excellent notes and evaluations. The my patient's primary care physicians and surgeons were more than happy to have me send them to PMR because they know they don't have the proper knowledge to document well and don't have the time to attempt it. That being said, we are being asked by Medicare to police the doctors! This is similar to local police departments being asked to do Immigration's work of finding and reporting undocumented immigrants!! We all must contact SBA, our congressmen and anyone else who might have some influence with the Federal govt to change this. Lane Ferrin CP |
