Congenital prosthesis

Posted By: Sunny Hills Admin on February 13, 2017

Hi Listmembers,

The question arose in our office regarding criteria to determine when to
proceed with an "extension" prosthesis as opposed with continuing with a
sole and heel shoe lift for a child who has congenital shortening of a leg.
There comes a point where the shoe lift required is approaching 4-5 inches,
but at the risk of becoming cumbersome or turning that ankle. Is there a
criteria for how much of a lift is too much? What have you found to be an
effective strategy?

Thank you! Randy McFarland, CPO
