This is great stuff, but there are problems associated with this for
many "waiting" users. Years ago, Jerry Petrofsky, Ph. D., and his
associates, walked clients with a computer assisted system at Wright
State University in Dayton, Ohio. I was minimally involved with that,
but did see a few of their clients along the way, due to my relationship
with the orthopedic surgeons who handled the patients, known as subjects
at the university. I won't say how many, but several of those clients
suffered serious fractures during weight bearing, due to osteoporosis.
Hopefully, there are now improvements in medicines and training
techniques whereby this serious side-affect can be eliminated or
minimized. I also hope that the potential for fractures is made clear to
those involved with this orthosis. Beyond that, I believe this is a
marvelous hope for those affected by paralysis and want to walk again.
