ANNOUNCE: Academy Webinar July 25
Posted By: Manisha Bhaskar on July 19, 2012
The American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists The Academy Webinar Series LIVE WEBINAR Wednesday, July 25, 2012, 12:00 - 1:00 PM EDT Cutaneous Anchor Technologies: Diverse Applications in Consumer Use Debra Latour, MEd, OTR Gain detailed insight on the Ipsilateral Scapular Cutaneous Anchor System (the Anchor), invented by Debra Latour, MEd, OTR. This new and improved way of harnessing a body-powered prosthesis addresses a common source of discomfort that leads many children to reject prostheses. The Anchor is controlled by the limb deficient side, eliminating the need for the bulky straps across the body used by traditional harnessing systems. The system is more comfortable and improves shoulder symmetry. Latour will discuss design development and long-term patient outcomes. Debra A. Latour, MEd, OTR, has worked as an occupational therapist at Shriners Hospital for Children in Springfield, MA for 13 years and has been in the field for more than 30 years. Latour's education and training, as well as her personal experience living with an upper limb deficiency, allow her to help patients live as independently as possible and improve the quality of their lives. Latour invented the Ipsilateral Scapular Cutaneous Anchor System (the Anchor) to improve upon her own traditional harness system. Member rate: $30/Nonmember rate: $50.
