Cranio shaping helmets for a one year old.
Posted By: Paula Pivko on August 9, 2012
Dear List: I have a mother call with a prescription for a one year old to be fitted with a cranio helmet for shaping. I have not seen this child yet so I don't know the extent of his head, I'm guessing flatness posterior from on back positioning with no major skeletal or facial deformities. My concern is that the child is older than I have ever seen for a helmet...he is a year old according to the mother. Her child is also Medicaid and I know the reimbursement on that is terrible, if it's covered at all. Would this helmet have any effect in reshaping and what L-codes do you use for insurance? Do you even bill insurance or have the patient pay and then submit herself? I do not wish this mother to pay out a lot of money if the helmet will not be very effective. Thank You Paula Martinek, LPOPort Saint Lucie, FL |
