Fast Walk AK
Posted By: Jeff Vranesh, CPO on August 27, 2012
I have a 62 yr old male above knee patient who wants to walk a marathon. He currently is walking 3-4 miles a day at a rate of about 3 miles per hour. He is using a Total Knee 2000 with flex walk foot which he claims is preventing him from going faster than 3mph,he wants to walk 4-5 mph. The knee is hitting terminal impact(which is another issue, noise) without slowing. It appears he should be able to increase his speed with this knee. What am I missing ? I informed him at this speed he will always have the terminal impact and is OK with that. He has "The Need For Knee Speed" Any suggestions on a knee for him ? THANKS Jeff Vranesh, C.P.
