OPIE Practice Management Suite FAQ
How does OPIE differ from other O&P software packages?
Most O&P software packages were designed by computer programmers or accountants. Their primary goal was to manage the billing process and submit claims electronically, with clinical notes or other features added as an afterthought. OPIE, on the other hand, was designed by an O&P practitioner and business owner with the goal of creating a digital office that would streamline all aspects of patient care and practice management. The result is a revolutionary software product that helps you work smarter.
What advantages does OPIE Billing & Collections have over other billing programs?
OPIE Billing & Collections uses data already available in the OPIE Practice Management Suite to automatically fill out nearly all claim information, reducing errors and saving time. All steps from verification and authorization to claim submission to the collections process are managed using a task-driven system that minimizes delays, provides complete accountability and enables intelligent distribution of the workload among members of the billing staff.
Can I submit claims electronically with OPIE Billing & Collections?
Yes. OPIE Billing & Collections sends claims electronically through ZirMed, a leading clearinghouse. You simply choose the ZirMed option when submitting a claim through OPIE Billing & Collections and the claim will automatically be transmitted by EDI through your ZirMed account. When you contact us for an OPIE demonstration, we can also put you in touch with a ZirMed representative to set up a demonstration of the clearinghouse features.
Is OPIE Billing & Collections HIPAA and Medicare compliant?
Yes. OPIE Billing & Collections is fully compliant with all HIPAA and Medicare regulations. Note that you will not find OPIE on lists of Medicare certified or HIPAA certified software providers because these designations refer to compliance in the area of electronic claims submission. Since OPIE submits claims through a clearinghouse, we are not eligible to apply for these certifications.
Can I transfer the data from my existing billing software?
In general, your patient demographic information, insurance companies and referring physicians can be imported, as long as you can export the data from your existing software. A reputable software provider should be willing to help with this process (since you own the data contained in their software). Note that it is generally not possible to transfer claim data in bulk. Typically there will be a period where you will continue to run your old billing software to track old claims. You can then manually transfer any lingering AR after you've reached the point where most claims are in the new software. If this process does not work well for your company, there are other alternatives that we can discuss with you.
Is OPIE Billing & Collections available separately?
No, the OPIE Billing & Collections module is an integrated part of the OPIE Practice Management Suite and is not available separately.
What are the software, hardware and network requirements for running the OPIE Suite?
OPIE requires Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. Contact us for a complete list of hardware and network requirements/suggestions.
Is OPIE optimized for use on a Tablet PC?
Yes. Our experience has shown that the swivel models that can act as a Tablet PC or a small laptop allow the most flexibility.
Can I speak to other OPIE users to find out how it has worked for them?
Yes, we will provide a list of references upon request, and they will be happy to speak with you about their experiences with the OPIE Suite.
How can I demo the OPIE Suite?
Fill out our demo request form or call us anytime at 800-876-7740 to set up a free online demonstration of OPIE Lite and the OPIE Suite.
