TRS / BOA / EXOS Stories

The BOA® StoryThe EXOS Story

In 2010 TRS embarked upon an investigation of Boa® Technology as a possible partner and initiated a conversation with the Colorado company regarding their interest in expanding Boa's patented closure system into the orthotics and prosthetics field. As this business relationship matured, another unique Boa® partner, EXOS Corporation, became intimately involved due to their shared interest in expanding their own product lines into orthotics and prosthetics.

These negotiations evolved into a new working O & P product delivery and development partnership with Boa® Technology, Denver, CO. and EXOS Corporation, Arden Hills, MN.

Boa® Technology manufactures high-performance closure and lace tensioning systems for premium footwear and specialized applications. Boa® products are designed to replace almost any type of closure system and have the significant advantage of "one-handed" operability. In addition, Boa's closure system offers advanced pressure control through unique dual and even multi-zonal lacing configurations.

EXOS Corporation is a pioneer in developing and commercializing external musculoskeletal stabilization and support devices utilizing low temperature thermoformable polymers and laminating technology. Many of the devices currently commercialized by EXOS Corporation use the BOA® closure systems as the main fastening and closure mechanism.

The orthotics and prosthetics field has held a long-time interest in utilizing Boa® Closure Systems but until now, access to Boa® products has been limited. With the formation of this unique new partnership, TRS will become a primary vehicle for the delivery of both Boa® and EXOS current and future products into O & P. Via the EXOS Corporation, TRS will deliver Boa® production "Kits" as well as prototyping kits for experimentation to O & P practitioners and facilities. When applicable, these kits will also contain EXOS's low temperature, thermo-formable, laminated sheet materials to enhance specific product designs.

Soon, TRS plans to introduce an innovative forearm "prosthosis", available in multiple sizes to serve persons with partial hands or hand dysfunction. These prosthoses made from EXOS laminates using Boa® closure systems can be readily custom "formed" to a patient's individual limb morphology. These prosthoses will readily accept various products that TRS already manufactures like their golf, bicycle, baseball and kayaking terminal devices.

TRS predicts that this business partnership will open the door to a wealth of new and innovative products in O & P., with several exciting, revolutionary designs already in development under patent protection.
