Executive Board

Jack Richmond, President: past President of the United Amputee Services Association (UASA) and co-founder of the Barr United Amputee Assistance Fund (BUAAF). An amputee himself, Jack a Director since 1998, is now president of the Barr Foundation. Since receiving his BS/BA degree in 1991. Jack has worked in O & P central fabrication, physical therapy for amputees, and marketing. He currently is Marketing Manager for Fillauer a major manufacturer of prosthetic components in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

George Michael Keane, Jr., P.A., Vice President: a Director since 1988 and presently vice president is a practicing attorney in Chicago, Illinois.

John Berst, Treasurer: a Director since 1990 and Foundation treasurer since 1995. John is an amputee and is owner and CEO of Components Express based in Woodridge, Illinois.

Kathy Barr Kruger, Secretary: daughter of founder Illinois State representative William G. Barr and sister to the belated past president, Anthony T. Barr. Kathy, a recent nominee, is Foundation secretary.

Eva J Hughes, Executive Director: assistant to the belated president, Anthony T Barr for the last 10 years and is executive director of the office in Boca Raton, FL.

Directors

John W Ertl, M.D., a Director since 1981, is a retired surgeon specializing in amputation surgery. With his brother, William Ertl, M.D., he developed the Ertl Procedure in osteomyoplastic reconstruction surgery of lower and upper limb extremity amputations. The Ertl Procedure was initially developed by their father Janos Ertl in Hungary Circa 1920 .

Jan P Ertl, M.D., son of John Ertl, M.D., son of Janos Ertl developer of the Ertl procedure, is an associate professor at the School of Medicine, Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Indiana in Indianapolis, Indiana. Dr Ertl is a surgeon specializing in trauma care and limb amputation.

Robert Kistenberg, MPH, LP, CP, FAAOP, is the Prosthetics Coordinator at the Master of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology (www.ap.gatech.edu/mspo). He is also a clinical coordinator for LIVINGSKIN Prosthetics in Atlanta. In addition to teaching and clinical work, Rob has been doing mission prosthetics in Belize for the last 14 years. He is also serving as chair for the U.S. National Member Society of ISPO (www.usispo.org) . The focus of Rob’s Master’s degree in Public Health was program evaluation and International Health.

Wayne Koniuk, CP, a Director since 1996 is owner of San Francisco Prosthetic Services, and co-owner of Prosthetic Siliconics, Inc. He is noted internationally for developments in the use of silicone products for prosthetics as well as for innovative fitting and fabricating techniques.

Howard Kurland, M.D., a Board Director since 1980. He is Associate Professor, Northwestern University Medical School, Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Kurland, who also has a private practice in Kenilworth, Illinois, is a specialist and noted book author in specialities of relieving certain types of physical pain by the use of laser/acupuncture. Distinguished Life Fellow, American Psychiatric Association Past President, National Board of Acupuncture Medicine Honorary-Co-chairman, Physicians' Advisory Board, National Republican Congressional Committee Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Former Associate Professor, Department of Neurology, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Author of Quick Headache Relief without Drugs, and Back Pains--Quick Relief without Drugs.

James O. Young Jr., CP, FAAOP, an above knee amputee and recent nominee is vice president of the Georgia Society of Orthotics and Prosthetics and owner of the Amputee Prosthetic Clinic in Macon, GA.
