Bolivia
Paulina Costana Flores, a 23-year-old A/K amputee in Bolivia was happy to be the recipient of our Hope Donor Club member, Otto Bock Health Care's generosity in April 2004.
The non profit, Smiles Forever executive director, Sandy Kemper coordinated and delivered the components to the sponsoring prosthetists Juan Barra and Guido Zubieta of Ortopedia Barra in Cochabamer, Bolivia. Juan and Guido prepared the socket and continues to monitor her progress while Paulina continues physical therapy at the office of Carmen Perez and Eugenia Zegarra.
Within a few days of receiving her new leg, Paulina was walking without crutches. Paulina understands and accepts the responsibility of her new leg. She wants to be the spokesperson for amputees of South America. Paulina is very happy to have this opportunity to start a new life.
Sandy Kemper is also grateful to have had the opportunity to have worked with us and Otto Bock Health Care, enforcing her belief that working together in partnerships can move mountains.
Smiles Forever is a non profit association that provides a vocational dental hygiene program for homeless young women at the shelter, Madre De Dois where Paulina Costana Flores works to help with the cooking.
