Research lights the way to tomorrow's patient care. Where can you-the O&P professional-learn about the latest in research and technology?

One of the best avenues is, of course, professional meetings. There is a plethora of meetings, many of which provide valuable international and multidisciplinary perspectives. In the O&P field, there are the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP), the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association (AOPA), the International Association of Orthotics and Prosthetics (IAOP), and the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), plus various high-quality regional, network, and company meetings.

Canadian colleagues look forward to the biennial Canadian Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists (CAPO) meeting. Other meetings include those of the Pedorthic Footwear Association (PFA), the Association of Children's Prosthetic-Orthotic Clinics (ACPOC), and the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine (AACPDM).

So many great meetings-and often, so little time and money to attend! A good strategy would be for companies and individuals to take time at the beginning of each year and plan which meetings-in order of priority-they want to attend and come up with a game plan for professional advancement.

How about you? What's your game plan?
