CMS Reschedules HIPAA Education Call

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will be hosting its fourth national provider conference call regarding the implementation of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Version 5010. CMS will give a brief presentation, which will be followed by a Q&A session with CMS subject-matter experts. The call will be geared toward vendors, clearinghouses, and providers who are performing their own development of 5010.

The call will occur between 2– 3:30 p.m. ET on March 24 and will cover the following topics:

  • General overview of 5010
  • Additional changes to Medicare Fee For Service (FFS)
  • Timelines and deadlines
  • What you need to do to prepare
  • CMS’s approach for new error handling transactions: 999 and 277CA
  • Hot topics:
    1. Billing provider address change: post-office boxes no longer permitted
    2. Discussions on handling transaction errata

Registration

CMS has stated that in order for prospective attendees to receive the call-in information, they must register for the call. For those intending to sit in on a group, only one person needs to register to receive the call-in data. “This registration is solely to reserve a phone line, NOT to allow participation,” CMS stressed.

Registration will close at 2 p.m. ET on March 23, or when available space has been filled. No exceptions will be made to this rule.

  1. To register for the call, participants should visit www.eventsvc.com/palmettogba/032410
  2. Fill in all required data.
  3. Verify that the caller’s time zone is displayed correctly the drop down box.
  4. Click “Register.”
  5. The “Thank you for registering” page will open, and registrants will receive a confirmation e-mail shortly thereafter. CMS requests that registrants print and save this page, in the event that the confirmation e-mail is blocked or filtered. Registrants who do not receive the confirmation e-mail should check their spam/junk mail filter.
