A bipartisan bill, S.794, was introduced in the Senate on March 31 to amend the way Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC) make local coverage determinations (LCDs) for medical devices. According to the Advanced Medical Technology Association, the bill would require open and public MAC meetings that are on the record, require disclosure for the reasoning and evidence backing of an LCD decision, provide a reconsideration process, and prohibit MACs from adopting LCDs made in other jurisdictions without its own independent evaluation.
