Ossur Reorganizes in US

Ossur North America, Aliso Viejo, California, is reorganizing in order to increase its offerings to the O&P industry, in line with last month's acquisition of Generation II Group and its orthotic knee braces, the company announced November 12.

Effective immediately, the company has appointed Eythor Bender as president of Ossur North America. Before joining Ossur, Bender worked mainly in product management of ultrasound scanners and monitoring equipment for Hewlett Packard 's European Medical Division from 1989-1995.He joined Ossur in 1995 as marketing director in Reykjavik, Iceland. Bender relocated to Luxemburg in 1997 for two years to assume the responsibility for Ossur's European Division. Subsequently, he returned to Ossur corporate headquarters where he was responsible for Ossur's Prosthetic Division. More recently, he has served as vice president of sales and marketing. He has a masters degree in business administration from the University of Tübingen in Germany.

"North America is a critically important market for Ossur," Bender said. "Through innovation and excellent service, we have become a leading company with our line of prosthetics. Our recent purchase of Generation II has ideally positioned Ossur to expand its offerings beyond prosthetics. Our new management team brings a deep expertise in orthotics as well as prosthetics, and signifies a new balance in our overall strategy and ability to serve the industry as a whole."

Alan Young, CEO of Generation II North America, becomes vice president of Ossur North America, while maintaining his responsibility for the operation in Seattle. After serving five years as a medic in the US Army during the Vietnam War, Young earned a degree in wildlife biology from Washington State University. In 1974 he began a sales career working at Proctor and Gamble, followed by medical sales with Imed in 1979. He opened his own medical supplies company, Instrumed, in 1984. Young began working with Generation II Canada in 1988, and in 1990 was offered the opportunity to run the Generation II USA operations.

Marsh Moore has been appointed Ossur North America's director of sales, medical products. He will be responsible for the sales of current Generation II products. Moore joined Generation II USA in October 2002. His previous experience includes six years at dj Orthopedics as vice president of insurance services. Previously, he worked at Breg Inc. as director of business development and for 16 years as a senior sales representative at Baxter/American Hospital Supply. He is a graduate from San Diego, California, State University with a bachelor of science in marketing.

Tim McCarthy has been named Ossur North America's director of sales. In this capacity, he will be responsible for leading the company's outside sales team, inside customer service department, and the technical services department. McCarthy has quickly advanced in the ranks of the company as an area sales manager, market integration manager, and regional sales manager. Including his four years with Ossur, he brings 12 years of successful medical sales and sales management to his new position, the company noted. A native of Massachusetts, he graduated with honors from Northeastern University, Boston, with a bachelor of science in business administration, with a concentration in international business.

Oddny Bjornsdottir has been appointed director of marketing, Ossur North America. Bjornsdottir has been with the company since 1998 and brings extensive experience in working with Ossur's product lines as product manager and, most recently, as the director of new products in research & development. She graduated with honors from the University of Bifrost, Iceland, with a bachelor of science in business administration.

Ossur's head office is located in Reykjavik, Iceland (Icelandic Stock Exchange: OSSR). Besides its North American headquarters in Aliso Viejo, Ossur has manufacturing, distribution, and operational facilities in Reykjavik, Iceland; Eindhoven, Netherlands; Uppsala, Sweden; Albion, Michigan; Dayton, Ohio; Seattle, and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
