Just a tought - and a question
Posted By: bkopi on December 5, 2009
My name is Thomas Kopiske; I have been in O&P since 1994, gaining a journeymen's certificate in O&P in Germany, moving to the US in 1997 and getting recertified. At the request of my employer 'Quad City Prosthetics' (Rose Ferencik) of Moline, IL I acquired a C.Ped. certificate before I could move on to become BOC certified in Orthotics. Since I was offered a chance to grandfather in to ABC in 2004 I took that chance and shortly afterwards opened my own facility in Iowa. We did well but decided to follow my in-laws to Missouri - a move I have never regretted and had a multiple year run of success and gain. We had 3 (THREE!) complaints in 4 years and I think that still is exceptionally good. The ABC inspection we got by Mr. Markgren gave us a 3 year facility certification in Orthotics and Prosthetics. It was the 3rd certification in O&P both since the inception of Kopiske Orthopedic Services. According to him that isn't done very often but we had our ducks in a row... We applied for - and where granted - a Medicare supplier number for O, P and DME. I got certified In Germany and submitted all my paperwork with the application. According to Medicare's ruling they will review the papers and approve - or deny the application. I got approved. 4 years later I got denied and hit with a $166.000 repayment request - no, demand... Where do I go from here - does anybody have an idea how to proceed from here?? Tom |
