7.8 Magnitude Earthquake in Ecuador - Expected spike in O&P demand

Posted By: Diana Anthony on April 27, 2016

Hello and greetings from Quito, Ecuador!

Following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that devastated the Ecuadorian coast
and many more provinces on April 16, 2016, our hearts at the Range of
Motion Project (ROMP) go out to those who have
been affected in any way. We realize how important immediate and long-term
relief efforts will be in helping the affected people, and we plan to do
our best to help.

Having worked for 10 years in this country, we already have close ties with
the Fundación Hermano Miguel, the ICRC, and the Ecuadorian Government
Ministry of Public Health, as well as other private and public O&P clinics
throughout the country. We are coordinating all of our efforts with these
groups to develop the most effective and valuable aid plan that we can to
deliver care to the injured.

The Fundación Hermano Miguel has asked for the creation of a fund for
financial support for the provision of prosthesis as well as a bank of
components that can be used for the devices. We at ROMP support our
partners and the coordinated efforts of the Government and private NGOs and
are therefore reaching out to YOU with this message asking for help.

*We are asking all of our partner clinics, clinicians, patients, and
supporters to reach out to their networks to collect either in-kind
component or monetary donations to help ROMP help others in this time of
need. Please see attached flyer for descriptions of in-kind donations we
are currently seeking!*

Thank you so much for your help and concern for the people of Ecuador! The
road to recovery will be long, but we will get there, one step at a time.

Best,
Diana Anthony
